Lumley
See how incredible illuminated signage elevated the insurer’s profile.

Client Background:
Lumley provides insurance services that help people pursue their goals and aspirations – through a nationwide network of brokers and corporate partners.

The Project:
Lumley contracted Corporate Signage to design, install and maintain highly visible exterior building signage for the company’s flagship building – the Lumley Centre in Shortland Street, Auckland.
Creative thinking:
To create the impact expected of such a prominent building, Corporate Signage contracted neon artist Paul Hartigan to develop their initial design concept. Paul has had considerable experience in the medium, with many commissioned works and corporate examples around New Zealand.
With the initial request for submissions, Lumley had originally envisaged the four-sided building with four individual signs. After a site inspection, the Corporate Signage team presented concepts for two angled sides. This would maximise frontage but also give the best angles for the signage to be seen around the city. The approach meant that Corporate Signage could capture the unexpected and ‘larger than life’ impression that Lumley wanted to portray. It also represented significant cost savings to the client.
Making it happen:
The Corporate Signage team ensured that the project was clear and simple: talking the client through the stages, processes and timing. They also managed all required consents and permits for the sign, which stands 3.5m high and covers 100m² per face of the building.
The building’s existing mounting points were in the wrong positions, requiring a new mounting system. So once the optimum sign size and positioning were established, Corporate Signage engaged an engineer to custom-design a mounting frame that would carry the sign elements.
The sign’s lettering and lines were constructed in aluminium by Metalinz and powdercoated. Neon was supplied and bent by Wholesale Neon. Pro Sign Services installed the building signage to ensure excellent safety and longevity.
