Selwyn Village
Clear, durable signage makes it easier to get around a retirement village.

Client Background:
Selwyn Village in Point Chevalier offers a unique lifestyle for people over 65, with superb modern apartments and amenities.

The Project:
The Village layout changes periodically, so signage needs to be very clear around entrances and on all buildings.
The aim of a cohesive signage system is to direct first time clients/visitors to their destinations with just the right number of signs. The team at Corporate Signage began by undertaking a Wayfinding Audit: finding a collection of old, mismatched signage that was no longer assisting with wayfinding.
After consultation with the property managers and staff on site, the Corporate Signage team produced a preliminary report and recommendations for the best way forward. The process identified key areas to be addressed, in order to develop an appropriate system to meet the current and future needs of the Village.
Creative thinking:
The sign system had to have a long life expectancy. So Corporate Signage proposed exterior signage that could withstand not only the natural elements but human ones too. Circular concrete pads were fitted around each leg of the signs once they were installed, to protect against regular lawnmowing.
Making it happen:
Materials were chosen largely for durability. Also vital were legibility and the correct hierarchy of information. So, in addition to the brand guidelines, the team at Corporate Signage took typefaces, colour, descriptors, and the use of symbols and arrows into careful consideration.
The resulting signage enables first time visitors to navigate around the Village easily. Selwyn was so pleased with the outcome that Corporate Signage has since been engaged to provide signage for another three residential villages.
Client reference:
“The directional signage around the Selwyn Village site in Pt Chevalier was old and a bit mismatched so I decided to approach Corporate Signage, who I had dealt with previously, to prepare a proposal to revamp all the signage throughout the Village.
The proposal that they submitted contained some modern type signage with easy to read lettering and fitting very well with both the existing buildings and the new being developed. The staff that I dealt with were knowledgeable, understanding of our needs and prepared to go the extra distance.
The result has been well received not only by the residents but also by all the visitors and the Foundation’s Board members. The quality of the signage has received a top mark by all concerned.
I would have no hesitation to recommend Corporate Signage to other companies and I will certainly use them again in any future projects.
